Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT, is an intensive, one year treatment program designed the help persons with histories of: chronic suicidal behaviors; self harm behaviors such as cutting, burning, substance abuse or eating disorders; and other patterns of life choices that harm overall well-being. The goal of treatment is to aid clients in building a "life worth living", learning new behaviors and making more effective choices.
Treatment includes a weekly, two hour, classroom style, skills building group meeting; a minimum of bi-weekly individual therapy; and ongoing skills use coaching. The year of intensive treatment includes two 24 week sessions of the program. DBT Skills Group and individual therapy are provided by highly trained and experienced DBT therapists. There are separate programs for adults and adolescents. Services are offered in the Grand Rapids Metro area; in the Lakeshore area; and in the Traverse City area.
Most insurance plans with mental health benefits cover the individual therapy portion of the treatment. Plans with group mental health benefits may cover the Skills Group portion of treatment as well. Individualized treatment plans and financing plans are determined during the assessment phase of the treatment.
