(Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders)
A complete
range of services for the person with both a psychiatric and substance abuse/addictions/dependency disorder. These patients benefit
most from a multidisciplinary team skilled in applying both treatment methods
simultaneously.
Co-occurring Disorders services provide the necessary, integrated
treatment in inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization, residential
treatment, and intensive and traditional outpatient treatment. For any
Co-occurring Disorders service, please call the Contact Center at 616.455.9200.
The program's goals are to:
- establish abstinence from all addictive drugs
- stabilize the acute disease
- rehabilitate the body, mind, and spirit
- set up a program of dual recovery that includes regularly attending
self-help groups
Inpatient Hospitalization
Pine Rest provides a safe, structured setting to help patients manage
crisis and start treatment. A multidisciplinary team identifies the problems,
begins discharge planning, and decides appropriate referrals.
Partial Hospitalization
In partial hospitalization, also known as day treatment, patients develop ownership
of their problem. They begin to understand their capacity for managing
the illness and prepare for reentry into the community.
The program offers a Dual Recovery Track that includes the Dual Recovery
Group Therapy, Dual Relapse Prevention/Education Group, Medication Education
Group, and Faith and Recovery Group. Patients develop positive, nonaddictive
coping skills, deepen their commitment to abstinence, begin managing any
necessary psychotropic medications, and develop an aftercare plan.
Outpatient Treatment
Patients continue their recovery and increase their independent functioning
in outpatient treatment. Therapy helps them deal with interpersonal conflict
and manage their symptoms. They work on ending drug-centered activities
and improving relationships at work and home. Intensive outpatient treatment
adds specific Dual Recovery Track components within the partial hospitalization.
Pine Rest promotes the self-help recovery movement by offering meeting
space for AA, Alanon, and-Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA)-meetings. While
Pine Rest does not run the meetings, when appropriate, staff encourage
patients to use the groups as part of the comprehensive treatment plan.
Eligibility and Payment
Patients need a primary psychiatric diagnosis with admission criteria
for intensive programs. Pine Rest participates with Medicare, Medicaid,
most insurance carriers, and many managed care programs. Some - including
Medicaid - require pre-authorization for services.
