Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services sponsors a variety of workshops
and classes throughout the year. These workshops and classes are
designed
to help the non-professional learn and understand the latest skills and
techniques. Workshops and classes often address common behavioral
health
care topics like depression, intervention, anger management, ADHD,
stress management, and more. Classes are offered at various locations
and
Pine Rest Clinics
around Grand Rapids, West Michigan, and central Iowa. Workshop or
class

Upcoming Workshops and Classes
July 15, 22, 29, August 5 Anger Management Classes for Teens Anger Management for Teens. The four-week class will be led by outpatient therapist Ryan LaRue, MSW, LMSW, ACSW, of Pine Rest’s Campus Clinic. Tuesdays from 4:15 – 5:30 p.m. at the Van Andel Center on Pine Rest’s main campus, 300 68th Street in Cutlerville. Cost: $75. To register call 616/222-4584 or e-mail ryan.larue@pinerest.org.
Program Outline Classes will be geared toward males and females ages 12 – 17. The classes will focus on an assortment of topics including: • Learning to control anger and prevent angry outbursts • Identifying the signs of anger • Practicing how to express your feelings • Finding alternative ways to express your anger • Understanding the differences between anger, aggression, assertiveness and hostility
About the Speaker Ryan LaRue MSW, LMSW, ACSW has over ten years’ of social work / counseling experience working with adolescents and children and has taught the anger management course for two years to over 300 teenagers.August 13 "Together We Can: Learn To Have Safe Conflict" Led by Grant Porteous, MSW, LMSW, at the Pine Rest Traverse City Clinic, 1050 Silver Drive, Traverse City. September 4, 11, 18, 25 Anger Management Classes for Adults Led by Jim Bottenhorn, MA, LLP, Director of Pine Rest’s Hospital Admissions. 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Postma Center on Pine Rest's main campus, 300 68th Street, SE, Grand Rapids. Open to adults and older teens. Registration is required. Cost: $70/individual or $105/two family members. Class fee due at first class. Call 616/493-6033 for more information and to register. Participants will learn the difference between the emotion of anger and aggression, explore the factors that influence their anger, learn to recognize anger’s warning signs, and develop new ways of responding to feelings of anger that are productive, vs. unproductive. Class participants will also learn to communicate their feelings appropriately, rather than stuffing them or blowing up.
