This is a support group with seven sessions on Wednesdays August 5 - September 16 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Postma Center, Pine Rest Main Campus, 300 68th Street SE. There is no charge -- group is funded by the OAA, Title IIIE Family Caregiver Support Program through the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan. Facilitators area Mary Mathieu, Ph.D., CTRS, with the Alzheimer's Association and Suzann Ogland-Hand, Ph.D., with Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. An intake screening is required. Secrets for Successful Marriage is taught by experienced marriage professionals and is for couples who want to grow their relationship in preparation for marriage. It teaches couples healthy relationship skills that will benefit them throughout their lives together. Because it is skill based, Secrets for Successful Marriage is a valuable addition to traditional pastoral or professional premarital counseling. In addition, couples take the online FOCCUS Inventory, designed to help them identify relationship strengths and potential areas of growth. The workshop instructor interprets the results of the inventory in a group setting. Individualized follow up is available for an additional cost. Secrets for Successful Marriage is held over two consecutive Saturday mornings. To obtain a certification of completion, couples must attend both sessions. All workshops occur 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Cost for the workshop is $100 per couple, which includes workshop fees, administration and scoring of the FOCCUS inventory, and a participant's workbook.
