Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 3:3-4.
Daily, I am reminded of these compelling words spoken by Jesus in his masterful Sermon on the Mount. I consider myself blessed with a wonderful privilege and honor to work with those in our community who are hurting, broken, and in need of comfort. Life is unfortunately full of tragic stories of those who are poor in spirit.
As a psychologist, I have a clinical responsibility to provide support, guidance, and encouragement to the teenagers, the adults, the married couples, and the families who sit in my office. As a Christian, I have the honor to be inspired by the Holy Spirit to provide hope and healing for these same people.
During my career, I have witnessed numerous individuals who have been blessed by the healing hand of God. I am humbled by the privilege and by the honor to walk with those who tackle the trials of today. Often in the darkest hour of our lives, we feel persecuted by the pain of living. Jesus reminds us that in our persecution, our faith allows us to be blessed by a peace that flows from the kingdom of heaven.
