Douglas is a licensed clinical social worker with 30 years experience in the human services field. He earned a BA degree in Psychology and Social Work from Hope College in 1983 and a Masters of Clinical Social Work degree from Michigan State University in 1988.
His professional experience includes providing individual, and family therapy to adults, teenagers, and children. Douglas is a very versatile clinician and has worked in a variety of treatment settings including residential, foster care, home-based services, outpatient clinic, and hospital in-patient.
Douglas’s areas of expertise include cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, family and child issues, (including adoption) depression and anxiety, anger management, grief and loss, PTSD and other trauma-related issues.
In addition, Douglas has a passion to assist patients in developing a stronger Christian faith and approaches therapy from a solid biblical perspective. Douglas is skilled in helping patients successfully apply the truth of scripture to their specific situations in order to promote healing and long-term growth.
Douglas has been married for almost 30 years, has four children, (two of them by adoption) and he and his wife were also foster parents for eight years.
