Parenting Classes Offered at North Shore Clinic

Parenting: From Survival to Success is a class that will be taught at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services North Shore Clinic. The 6-week class series will be held on Tuesdays, April 9 – May 14, 2013.

The class time is from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the North Shore Clinic, 17325 Van Wagoner Road, Spring Lake, Mich. 49456. It will be facilitated by Brett VanTol and William J. Rowell, both licensed psychologists.

Classes are for parents of children six to 16 years who want to learn how to raise respectful, responsible children. Cost is $90 for the series of classes. One or both parents may attend for this fee. In addition, there will be the cost of the “Transforming the Difficult Child Workbook” for $18.

Parenting can be the most difficult, but potentially most rewarding challenge a person will have. Often, our own parenting experiences may not prepare us to be the kind of parent we wish to be.

Emphasizing the successes every child has and minimizing the energy given to their mistakes (negative behaviors) allows parents and others who deal with children to transform the child.

Parents also find this approach transforms them from negative, rule-setting, frustrated authority figures to generous and supportive parents.
