During Alzheimer’s disease
awareness month in November, Pine Rest will offer two free memory screenings and
partner with Metro Health on a third on Nov. 13, 2012. No appointments are
necessary at any of the locations.
According
to the World Alzheimer Report
2012 released by London-based
Alzheimer’s Disease International, about 36 million people worldwide are living
with dementia and the numbers will more than triple to 115 million by 2050. The
global cost of the disease is estimated at $604 billion.
People
that are affected or family members and friends may not know how to begin the
conversation about memory loss. These screenings could be a non-threatening way
to start. They are free, confidential, and open to the public. Those screened
will learn about treatment options and be able to pick up educational handouts
on memory loss, its symptoms, and how it affects people.
