Dementia Care: Building Your Toolkit, an interactive workshop for caregivers, will be held at Pine Rest on June 4 from 7:30 a.m. – noon. The workshop is appropriate for nurses, nurse aides and other direct care workers and providers. It will be held in the Postma Center on Pine Rest’s main campus, 300 68th Street SE.
The objectives of the workshop are to prepare caregivers to identify various types of dementia, understand needs-driven behaviors, learn how to use positive approaches to challenging behaviors of dementia, and identify symptoms of caregiver burnout and compassion fatigue.
The workshop presenters are clinicians Suzann Ogland-Hand and Amy McGarey. Ogland-Hand is a geropsychologist at Pine Rest’s Northeast Clinic and the director for the center for senior care at Pine Rest. McGarey is a licensed clinical social worker and a certified trauma specialist. She works with residents with dementia at Pine Rest.
The workshop is free due to funding by the Pine Rest Foundation. Register online at www.pinerest.org/event-caregivers, and for any questions email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (616) 222-4566.
