Bernice Patterson, MA, Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist

In Romans 8:28 it says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose”.  This is a verse and a truth that can offer much needed peace in the midst of the storms of life.  Yet as believers, in our broken state it is not always easy to trust in this truth.  As a believer and a therapist I have come to know God as a comforter and a guide who will never leave you nor forsake you.  I firmly believe that I have been called into the ministry of psychotherapy to serve as a guide and a confidant for those who have found themselves feeling battered by the pains of life.

As an African-American Christian woman, I have come to appreciate and understand the importance of psychotherapy that speaks to the whole person.  I am a clinician and licensed minister of the gospel who is passionate about the power and intersection of faith, culture, and psychology.  Throughout my undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, master’s level training at Wheaton College, and my doctoral level training at Western Michigan University, I have been privileged to tailor my education and preparation in the field to focus around God led and centered psychotherapy that is culturally informed.  I work from a Person-Centered/Cognitive Behavioral orientation that is done through a Christian Integrative and Culturally Informed lens.

It is my sincere heart’s desire to be able to walk alongside of you by offering prayer, guidance, and insight into your struggles and allow the Holy Spirit to use me as an instrument to assist you in your journey through life.
