Joint Operating Agreement between Pine Rest, Saint Mary's Health
Care, and Metro Health
On July 1, 1998, Pine Rest and Saint Mary's Health Care,
a member of the Trinity Health Services Corporation, and Metro Health formed a Joint Operating Agreement to provide inpatient
and partial hospitalization services to benefit the community over
the long run.
This venture combines into one jointly operated structure the behavioral
health care inpatient and partial hospitalization services previously
operated separately by the institutions. Pine Rest is the majority owner
and representatives from Pine Rest, Saint Mary's, and Metro Health govern the Joint Operating Agreement.
Bed licenses continue under both Saint Mary's and Pine Rest and were
not transferred to this new entity. The adult beds are under the Saint
Mary's license, including the adult beds previously held by Pine Rest.
The Children, Adolescent, and Older Adult beds remain under the Pine Rest
license. Also a part of the Joint Operating Agreement are the Psych-Med Unit (PMU)
beds at Saint Mary's Health Care with Saint Mary's holding the
license.
There are a total of 130 acute beds located on the Pine Rest campus and
20 PMU beds located at Saint Mary's Health Care.
This Joint Operating Agreement has been well received in West Michigan.
It allows Pine Rest and Saint Mary's to serve the community's acute
psychiatric
needs, including commercial, Medicare and Medicaid populations, and to
strengthen Pine Rest's and Saint Mary's ability to further their mission
to provide high quality psychiatric care in a healing, Christian environment.
